Stayed in tonight and knitted while watching movies on HBO. I thought it'd be fun to watch some duds, which has the benefit of not requiring that I pay much attention. The first one was Lost and Delirious starring Piper Perabo of Coyote Ugly fame. I thought it'd be terrible because the guide said it was a story of a girl who goes to boarding school and finds that her two roommates are lovers, and movies about girls at boarding school who are lovers are usually soft-core male-delusions with little or no cinematic merit and it features the star of Coyote Ugly. It wasn't that bad, though it was predictable and distinctly Canadian. The second of the two movies turned out to be really enjoyable. Love and Sex starred Jon Favreau and Famke Janssen and was a romantic comedy I'll put in the same camp as Singles and High Fidelity, though not as good as either of those. Basically it's the story of a couple who can't seem to get it right and eventually end up together despite their individual issues. The script was pretty good and there were some laugh-out-loud moments. Really what got me is seeing all those issues and quirks illustrated when I've been spending so much time thinking about them lately. Jon Favreau's character wasn't like Boy in that Boy only felt comfortable with his Serious Love Feelings for about as long as it takes to change a tire, but there were some general similarities, at least to my current outlook. Speaking of Boy, he called last night just to say hello and let me know he was in the hospital for three days last week. He's fine now of course, just the usual -don't admit you're sick because it means you're not in control- thing, same as always. He also apologized for quote-unquote forgetting what my house keys were and throwing them away. Sure. I'm feeling like I should add something knit-related, since that was ostensibly what got me started on this blog, so: Got quite a bit more knitting done while watching the movies. I'm working on a piece using Lion Brand Chenille Thick & Quick in wine, and true to its name, it is knitting up very quickly. Another couple hours and it'll be done.
