Got home from work tonight and went from zero to starving-to-death in under 30 seconds. I hate that.

I've become addicted to Television Without Pity. I decided that it's all the fun of reality TV without actually spending the time to watch the shows. I read the recap of The Bachelor's season premiere in way less than an hour and it has all the snarky comments I'd usually make while watching already included. What a deal! As we used to say a longass time ago: "I'd buy that in a can!" I probably wouldn't even remember that phrase, but Guy I Dated a Couple Times in that era just got back in touch with me after forever and he's part of the same memory chunk that includes that phrase.

Got my teeth cleaned today and the hygienist asked me if I drink a lot of tea or coffee. I said neither. She asked if I drink a lot of any other dark beverages. The only one I can think of is dark beer, which I didn't think was appropriate to bring up at the dentist's office. Hee. Good news is my baby tooth is still fine and dandy. Bad news is I am now somehow old enough to warrant the dental procedures they do for people who are "getting older." I think they could at least wait until I hit 30 and then tell me my teeth are old, dammit.

I finally got around to taking some pics of the action figure Michael made of me.

I'm in the process of making it possible for people to leave comments on here. Hopefully it'll be working soon, until then, email me.

Finished the latest scarf. This one is made from Red Heart Plush in French Blue. This was my first attempt at an actual stitch, as opposed to just knit stitch. I did a moss stitch, which was pretty easy to keep track of. This yarn is chenille-y and really forgiving, so if I did make mistakes, they didn't show up clearly.

Was reading about Carnivale online tonight and got inspired to do an online tarot reading for fun:

The Three Fates spread is an exceptionally popular way to gain insight into the emerging arc of the past, present, and future. The Rider Waite Tarot is the classic and most widely recognized Tarot deck, good for all manner of divinations. It is especially suited to questions of a mystical nature, and to issues of the world at large.

The left card represents an important element of the past. Seven of Wands (Valor): Standing courageously for your beliefs in the face of adversity. Fear of failure overcome by the will to succeed. Great obstacles met with heroism and determination. Inner strength brought to bear at a critical moment.

The middle card represents a deciding element of the present. Death: A major change or transformation, possibly traumatic and unexpected. Freedom from the shackles of the past. A new beginning. Death coupled with rebirth, usually related to consciousness and lifestyle.

The right card represents a critical element of the future. Knight of Cups, when reversed: The dark essence of water behaving as fire, such as a flash flood: Deceptive charm in the service of intense insecurity and rapidly shifting moods. Selfishness, indolence, and a complete lack of maturity. Misguided idealism divorced from practicality. Destructive romantic passions and infidelity.

The past and present I can see, but the future is a pretty bleak outlook. Bleak or like the past of several years back; tomAYto, tomAHto. All for fun, anyway.

Logan somehow cut her paw! I had to take her to the vet and she had to get staples. I cannot figger out how she did it, but the vet said that it wouldn't have bled much and that it probably wouldn't have been open until she licked it a bunch, so that's most likely why I didn't see it right off the bat (last night). Now she has staples, so she'll be FrankenDog for 10 days.

This before photo is really poorly taken - bad contrast.

In the after photo, she still has some yellow coloration on her from the surgical procedure.

Finished the wine-colored scarf tonight. It's a super-tiny chenille yarn, and I did it on relatively fat needles, which resulted in a nice loose weave. It looks kind of delicate, I think.

The color doesn't look true in the photos above - it's closer in this one:

This weekend was a total blast. I feel like I'm still recovering from the tireds. A bunch of the gang stayed at my place Friday and/or Saturday, and most've us hung out on Friday night here. It totally made the weekend to have them all here. Now I'm antsy as hell for the Grifter shows in October.

I've been thinking about how people deal with relationships and etc. I watch these crapass reality shows and wonder at how immature and unrealistic the participants are. Yes, they're young, and yes, they've already made a point about their intelligence by even being on a reality show. I watch and am disgusted by how un-self-aware these people are, how willing they are to fall to pieces. And it has an effect on me, even though I shouldn't let shit-TV influence me. It pushes me further toward the already-there trend of me not wanting to let romantic-y stuff affect me, of not wanting to show emotion and therefore look foolish. I was finally getting over that a bit with Boy, but his unexpected change of heart made me gunshy again. I figger at least I'm thinking about the shitty ways my brain works, so I'm at least a step ahead of the reality TV idiots.

Went to the first meeting of the local Knitting Guild tonight and it was a good time. I learned how to make mitre squares, which do look pretty cool. I haven't ever used a pattern so I wasn't sure about it, but it was easy to pick up. The ladies were very nice and welcoming.

Friendster Fella got me going on anagrams, and I found one for my full name: nine blaze heathen maiden. Hot!

Semi-self-destructive item for the day. I was reading some articles on Nerve and on a whim did a "match me" from my ancient old profile from three years ago. Lo and behold, who comes up but Boy. More than anything I am annoyed because he was "too busy" to spend time with any person and now he's actively looking to meet people. I believe he was being honest at the time, and things change for everyone, but it is still annoying. I know I shouldn't even have been messing with it, but my intent was really just to see if any interesting people from Mount Pleasant were on there - not for dating, just for interesting people (besides, I was never too busy). Urgggh.

So here's that chenille scarf I finished on Sunday:

That photo is with the edges rolled up, which is my favorite way to wear a scarf. Here's one with it laid flat:

Here's a close-up:

I really like the rich texture of this yarn, and it knits very quickly, but it is semi-annoying to work with because it's so fat. I'm working on one now that's made from an eensy-beensy chenille yarn, and I'm doing it on fat needles, so it's a very loose, open weave. I'm very pleased with it so far.

In other exciting news, yesterday's Morning Sun listed a meeting of the the local knitters guild, so I'm going to check that out on Thursday. Hopefully it's not all biddy-bun-heads. I'm hopeful, though. The woman I talked to about it said that they don't care about your skill level, there are no requirements, and it's all for fun, so it sounds good.

I was going to post some photos of the scarf I finished knitting today, but for some reason the digital camera software is not cooperating. Hopefully I can get Bill to help me figger it out tomorrow. This week I did the unheard of for my lately-old-lady-self: went out twice on weeknights. Wednesday was much fun. I met up with a Friendster fella and we hit it off pretty well: lots in common in terms of music, movies, TV, and other pop cultural ephemera. Plus he's cute and has nice tattoos. Thursday I went on my own and ended up having a longer than expected/necessary conversation with JP-ex. He'd been drinking for half the night already and went on about how he has always felt guilty about how we ended. I was surprised and sort of appalled that he still thinks about it after such a long time. He's got this whole purity thing that I still find perplexing. Last night, Friendster Fella came over and the gang went out to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner and then went to see Once Upon a Time in Mexico, which kicked so much ass. I can't get over the image of Johnny Depp's character near the end of the movie (not going to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it). It seems strange to say that it was 'cool' but damn if it wasn't fucking cool. So an overall amazing weekend, and with still over a day left. Hell yeah.

Stayed in tonight and knitted while watching movies on HBO. I thought it'd be fun to watch some duds, which has the benefit of not requiring that I pay much attention. The first one was Lost and Delirious starring Piper Perabo of Coyote Ugly fame. I thought it'd be terrible because the guide said it was a story of a girl who goes to boarding school and finds that her two roommates are lovers, and movies about girls at boarding school who are lovers are usually soft-core male-delusions with little or no cinematic merit and it features the star of Coyote Ugly. It wasn't that bad, though it was predictable and distinctly Canadian. The second of the two movies turned out to be really enjoyable. Love and Sex starred Jon Favreau and Famke Janssen and was a romantic comedy I'll put in the same camp as Singles and High Fidelity, though not as good as either of those. Basically it's the story of a couple who can't seem to get it right and eventually end up together despite their individual issues. The script was pretty good and there were some laugh-out-loud moments. Really what got me is seeing all those issues and quirks illustrated when I've been spending so much time thinking about them lately. Jon Favreau's character wasn't like Boy in that Boy only felt comfortable with his Serious Love Feelings for about as long as it takes to change a tire, but there were some general similarities, at least to my current outlook. Speaking of Boy, he called last night just to say hello and let me know he was in the hospital for three days last week. He's fine now of course, just the usual -don't admit you're sick because it means you're not in control- thing, same as always. He also apologized for quote-unquote forgetting what my house keys were and throwing them away. Sure. I'm feeling like I should add something knit-related, since that was ostensibly what got me started on this blog, so: Got quite a bit more knitting done while watching the movies. I'm working on a piece using Lion Brand Chenille Thick & Quick in wine, and true to its name, it is knitting up very quickly. Another couple hours and it'll be done.

I heard a new song on MTV2 a couple weeks ago, ILLed the CD, and I gave it the first real listen in the car on the way to my rents' today. The album is Keep It Together by Guster. It's catchy, melancholy, poppy, and melodic. The singer's voice is reminiscent of John Linnell's but less whiny. The music has the multitude of instruments quality of Bright Eyes but is much less tortured. For some reason, it also brings Sloan to mind. I think "Careful" is my favorite track right now, definitely due in part to my recent heartbreak trauma. The only track I really didn't like was "Two at a Time" - it's about Noah's ark and has children singing: bleh.

Woohoo. Apparently I've got this thing working. Welcome to my blog. It will have stuff related to my various interests including knitting, rocknroll, zines, and etc. I've gotten started on Friendster.com recently and it's very interesting. The whole six degrees of separation/small world thing has always fascinated me. I decided to start this blog because I've started knitting more lately, and I discovered that there are a catrillion knitting blogs out there. Plus blogs are the "hot new thing" for teens in libraries, so I figger it can't hurt to be up on how it works.
