I'm gonna put-put-put on my walkin' shoes

I'm gonna but-but-button up my coat.

Did anyone else sing that song in elementary school music class? Today was the first day of back-to-school for the local kids and it made me feel like fall is actually coming. I was overcome by the urge to buy kneesocks as I walked to my car from work. I didn't actually go buy any, but I still want to.

Instead I came home and made an autumn hat.

It's not something I think I'd actually wear, but I think other people would.

back to it

After a whole wonderful week off, I'm back to the mountain town and back to work. I got a lovely welcome back this morning as I came in - the construction project is moving along and we had to move a whole bunch of stuff Right Away On The Spot right as I walked in the door. And a bunch of stuff that was supposed to get done while I was gone didn't, and it's now taking up most of the floor space in my office. Joy.

However, the week away was amazingly awesome! I can't describe how great it was to be living in the same space as K for so many days in a row. We got him all moved into his new for-the-next-six-months apartment and spent the week having fun sleeping in, watching movies and TVonDVD, and etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. *grin* Also got to meet K's mother and grandmother, who are visiting from FL, and some more relatives with whom they're staying. It was absolutely gorgeous weather and we got to spend some very relaxing time sitting outside by the water. It was one of the first times I've actually gotten to spend time just sitting under the sun this year. A very nice dose of vitamin D for me, along with several generous coats of SPF 45.

I finished a hat tonight that I've been working on for the last week or so. I didn't knit much while I was down at K's, but managed to finish this tonight.

The color's not coming out right because of the flash. It's truly a very deep blue jewel type of color.

another hat

Another one I designed myself, or rather, knit without a pattern. The color doesn't come through exactly here.

I used a combination of Bernat Eye Lash in Hip and Lion Brand Homespun in Baroque. It's not the right size for my head, but I didn't make it for me, so there. :)

still floating

All the excitement of the weekend is still with me. I predict it will be for some time.

Meanwhile, I finished that Pinks Hat the other day:

I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

!

This weekend was amazing, awesome, and lots of other words that can't capture what I'm feeling. Karl proposed on Saturday night and of course I said yes. He got the ring custom-made that I had picked out at the store downstate, and it's even more beautiful than I imagined.

I never thought about how difficult it is to take a photo of a diamond. The photo above is not great, but gets the idea across. I'm excited beyond belief about this, and will certainly be using the phrase 'my fiance' way more than anyone will want to hear.

knitting update

Wows, I've been really bad about posting lately.

I've been working on this project. Here's my progress so far:

I also started working on a hat of my own design. Working without a pattern, oooo. I wanted to attempt making a hat on non-circular needles. We'll see how it goes.

For this one, I'm using Bernat Lu Lu in Pink Puff, and I used Lion Brand Fun Fur in Hot Pink for the trim section.
