you never know

I just learned a new word. There is a name for the twirly thing that falls from maple trees: a samara. I went to band camp with a gal named Samara, but she pronounced it Suh-MAHR-uh, and this one's pronounced SAM-er-uh. How cool is it that I learned this while reading a picture book targeted toward kindergarteners?

Here's the shawl/scarf thingie I finished recently. It's one of those that you can 'stretch' out to fullest width for a shawl/wrap or 'stretch' out to fullest length for a scarf type thing.

and a close-up of the weave:

It's quite long and the top picture doesn't really show perspective well.

promises promises

Okay, everytime I say I'm going to be better about keeping up with this blog I totally don't do it. In the grand tradition of zinester apology-promises, I'll say it again. I have several finished objects to post photos of and will do so soon!

Meanwhile, check out this friggin' huge spider who was inhabiting my front doorway earlier this month:

Bear in mind that he was all scared and tense so he looks smaller than he actually was. He was BIG.
