squirrelaplegic

The poor squirrel has lost both his hands. Paws. Whatever. Brodie did the thing where he sucks on a small part until it gets mooshy enough to rip off, twice (one for each arm. paw. whatever).

Here's Brod lusting after it:

Here's a pic of that scarf I finished, the First Flowers Scarf:

I got mega sick of weaving in ends, so the one I'm working on now (Manly Striped Scarf) has a stripe that allows for carrying the yarn over at the row ends.

squirrel toy love

We got Brodie a new toy yesterday - a stuffed squirrel that we hoped might drive him bonkers. It did, and now he loves it. K teased him with it a bunch earlier this morning, making it run up and down the bannister and squeaking incessantly. Brod wasn't quite sure how to attack it and when we finally gave it to him, he just loved on it - sucking on it, licking it, and hugging it while falling asleep. Not sure where his usual killer instinct went to.

euphoricfatigue from lj asked if there were any updates on the Dead Lady House and there sure are! The people working on it have been here quite a lot over the past few weeks. Along with them comes their Not On A Leash Dammit doberman at which they keep yelling for running into the street. Grrr. They're the sort of people who put an absolutely humongous spiked collar on the dog so that it can barely lift its head. Clearly they don't care much for the poor thing, just for the image. More grrr.

They've pulled the roof off, the siding mostly off (there was a layer of aluminum siding over top of a layer of wood siding), and gutted the entire thing. Last week they put new windows in the front so things are looking better there. Before all that they knocked the back top half off and added an addition, so the house is now shaped like a storage shed. Architectural poop, I tell ya. It's snowing today so I couldn't get very good pics:

As you can see, they left some holes in the roof open to the elements. They put their feet through a few times when they were scraping the shingles off earlier this week. *sigh* I'm really glad the house is going to have an improved appearance but I can't say I'm looking forward to having these people as my neighbors. The other folks in the neighborhood feel the same way, though, so at least we'll have some unanimity if things get messy.

my kind of tree

Last night was the They show at Borders in Ann Arbor and it was totally sweet. K and I met up with a couple we're friends with and later another couple. It was packed in the Borders - fire codes be damned. We chatted with Them for about a millisecond afterward (the Borders guy seemed really miffed that we weren't getting anything signed and rushed us through) and made contact with the rep from Disney Records so we should get some promo stuff for SI. For anyone interested, if you aren't coming to the whole conference but want to stand in to listen to Them, it's only $10. Email me for more info (anneheathen at gmail dot com).

My librarian pal and I were way too short to see anything much, but K took some nice shots.

As promised, I finished the afghan:

Now I'm making a make-it-up-along-the-way scarf to use up yarn. It's three colors of Homespun at random intervals.

And I have to thank the ultimately cool Ned Vizzini for linking to this blog on his Be More Chill site. I *will* get him to come to MI for a conference one of these years.
