I may have to take a break from the previously scheduled knitting projects for this one.

The article I just posted about led me to a site I'm unfamiliar with, that of The Library Leadership Network. It looks like there could be a lot of great info there, but the membership fee is pretty steep! Does anyone who has joined have an opinion to share? Is it worth the 200 bucks?

George Needham has a very interesting article at WebJunction, wondering why so many managers suck. A few of his 'what often happens' scenarios describe people I've worked with exactly. Lots of food for thought, and good reminders for keeping perspective and for day-to-day doing-your-best.

The Movie Of Your Life Is A Cult Classic |
![]() Quirky, offbeat, and even a little campy - your life appeals to a select few. But if someone's obsessed with you, look out! Your fans are downright freaky. Your best movie matches: Office Space, Showgirls, The Big Lebowski |

I'm not usually one to write in books (most of the books I read are library books, so that's a good thing) but I would find this exceedingly handy for keeping a pen with my knitting notebook at all times. Potentially worth a try.

I met Librarianne today. We are playing chess.
I defy you! Come and kneel before Librarianne!
No, it is not dangerous to confuse librarianne with angels.
I'm not huge on popular music these days, being all older-than-twenty and set in my musical ways. I have been making an effort lately to listen to new things, at least just to hear them in case something's not crap. I did find Regina Spektor after all, and though I let my print subscription lapse a few years back, Entertainment Weekly is shaping up to be a reliable online source of new music I don't hate.

If the interwebs has taught me anything, it's that there are a whole lotta creative people out there and their creativity takes shape in ways I never would've imagined. There are some mega creative scientists who are using craft to illustrate really complicated mathematical concepts. The idea that I could potentially create one of these otherwise completely inscrutable thingies by following instructions I already know how to understand truly boggles my mind.
It was dusk when I took this on the way home from work on Saturday and the flash kept blowing it out, so I turned off the flash and got these blurry-in-a-neat-way photos.

It has been unseasonably mild so far this winter (or is it the new seasonable) and it has rained a lot. We were lucky enough to encounter only a short period of rainfall on our travels for xmas, and only right before we got home last night. It's a little weird not to have any snow for xmas, but I'm definitely fine with it.

Last Thursday the display bookshelf was installed around the column and our computer counter arrived. It has the wrong size legs (too short!) but those will be replaced with the proper size before it is installed. The paint is pretty much complete and the carpet should be installed in the next few days, I hope. After that the shelving will be installed and then we'll be nearly ready to go!

I am so ready to watch the next guaranteed reality TV trainwreck Grease: You're the One that I Want!. I'm sure it'll be terrible and hilarious, and perhaps it will fill the whole in my TV schedule that The Bachelor left behind. Only slightly more than a week until it begins!

Being Gen X, my work and personal lives don't overlap nearly as much as those of younger folks, at least according to this info from the Pew Research Center. In my personal life, though, I do like to multitask a whole lot. There's just not as much room for it at my job yet, as the technology/gadgets aren't there. This is definitely an issue for me as I'd very much like to have the technology there and I do think that it would be beneficial to my work, not as a way to bring my personal life into the work sphere but as a way to get more done all at once. I am in love with my job and workplace but there is significant room for improvement as far as gadget stuff goes. That process is in motion, slowly but slowly.
The title for the seventh and final Harry Potter book has been announced! There's a neat bit of fun on JK Rowling's site that unveiled the title. If you want to cheat, here's how:

We have color! The beginnings of it, anyway, and the space is really coming together. I'm so geeked about how neat the colors look, and the space really has its own feel (which was my goal) already. This is just the first coats so some of the painted areas are still splotchy. I believe the painting will be completed today (Thursday). Coordinating the carpet and shelving has been slightly complicated by the upcoming holidays but I'm sure it'll all come together eventually. Our traffic has been extremely slow the past few weeks anyhow, so no worries.
After the slight delay, the drywall mud was completed on Tuesday. The shape of the clouds are really becoming apparent and I almost felt like I could see what it would look like.
Wowzers! It looks like Skee-town's own JD Ryznar, of Yacht Rock fame and one of the great minds behind the festival that is Cinco de Moustache, has written a movie which Jason Lee is rumored to be starring in. I didn't know JD very well, just peripherally through mutual friends. I'm still pretty geeked about this, though.

Monday was Day Twelve, and the drywall is almost complete. The crew is splitting their time between this project and another (in the sorting area), and yesterday they spent most of their time in the other area, so not too much happened over here.

We officially have the cutest winter decorations evah. Penguins in little knit caps! How much better can it get? (Click through to see just how much better.)
We now have drywall and lighting in the 'clouds' and things are really starting to look real.
We now have new carpet throughout the Children's Library, with the exception of the area still under construction. The response from staff and the public has been overwhelmingly positive. This color combo makes the area feel so much warmer and, somehow, more open.
After being held up for a few days waiting for some inspections, work continued on Thursday. We now have electrical and lighting!
So, I got a haircut. I have bangs. And layers. And I'm not yet quite sure if I understand how it works, but I'm getting a handle on it.
Our show last night at Rubbles was SO much fun. The Eastern Block kicked as much ass as possible and our Sk88 set was pretty sweet, too. The Burning Bushes wrapped up the night in typical unruly fashion and a rockin' time was had by all. Thanks to all those who came to show your support! If you couldn't make it and want Sk88's brand-new, perfect-for-holiday-gift-giving CD, Ex Mortis, email me at anneheathen at gmail dot com.

This was Monday, day nine of the renovation. The drywall is up around the sides of the swoopy bits. After Monday, we got held up for a few days waiting for a couple of inspections, but things started up again briefly yesterday.
In case you've forgotten to mark your calendar, here's a handy reminder!
If I had buttloads of superfluous money just getting in my way all the time, I'd click on over to Every Picture Tells a Story and avail myself of some of that cash by purchasing this, this, this, and especially this.
The CYBILS Fiction Picture Book Nominations list has been posted. I'm so excited to be participating as part of the nominating committee. A mega woot! to Kelly of Big A Little A who has been doing all the legwork making sure we all have access to the nominated titles.
This is one unitasker I think I'd actually use regularly.
