We tried putting boots on Brodie once and it looked not unlike this. File under ROTFLOL.

LLN - Library Leadership Network

The article I just posted about led me to a site I'm unfamiliar with, that of The Library Leadership Network. It looks like there could be a lot of great info there, but the membership fee is pretty steep! Does anyone who has joined have an opinion to share? Is it worth the 200 bucks?

sucky management?

George Needham has a very interesting article at WebJunction, wondering why so many managers suck. A few of his 'what often happens' scenarios describe people I've worked with exactly. Lots of food for thought, and good reminders for keeping perspective and for day-to-day doing-your-best.

The Movie Of Your Life Is A Cult Classic

Quirky, offbeat, and even a little campy - your life appeals to a select few.

But if someone's obsessed with you, look out! Your fans are downright freaky.

Your best movie matches: Office Space, Showgirls, The Big Lebowski

I have been making an effort lately to listen to new things, at least just to hear them in case something's not crap. I did find Regina Spektor after all, and though I let my print subscription lapse a few years back, Entertainment Weekly is shaping up to be a reliable online source of new music I don't hate.

Michael Slezak of EW's Popwatch recommended British falsetto wunderkind Mika, especially the track "Relax, Take It Easy." I checked it out and it certainly is catchy, but even more so is "Grace Kelly." The chorus is tailor made for singing along and bopping your head to. I'm not convinced that I want to buy the entire album, but this is one single I'll definitely download.

science=craft

If the interwebs has taught me anything, it's that there are a whole lotta creative people out there and their creativity takes shape in ways I never would've imagined. There are some mega creative scientists who are using craft to illustrate really complicated mathematical concepts. The idea that I could potentially create one of these otherwise completely inscrutable thingies by following instructions I already know how to understand truly boggles my mind.

raindrops keep fallin'

It has been unseasonably mild so far this winter (or is it the new seasonable) and it has rained a lot. We were lucky enough to encounter only a short period of rainfall on our travels for xmas, and only right before we got home last night. It's a little weird not to have any snow for xmas, but I'm definitely fine with it.

It has the wrong size legs (too short!) but those will be replaced with the proper size before it is installed. The paint is pretty much complete and the carpet should be installed in the next few days, I hope. After that the shelving will be installed and then we'll be nearly ready to go!

Grease: You're the next TV show that I Want!

I am so ready to watch the next guaranteed reality TV trainwreck Grease: You're the One that I Want!. I'm sure it'll be terrible and hilarious, and perhaps it will fill the whole in my TV schedule that The Bachelor left behind. Only slightly more than a week until it begins!

living in a state of continuous partial attention

Being Gen X, my work and personal lives don't overlap nearly as much as those of younger folks, at least according to this info from the Pew Research Center. In my personal life, though, I do like to multitask a whole lot. There's just not as much room for it at my job yet, as the technology/gadgets aren't there. This is definitely an issue for me as I'd very much like to have the technology there and I do think that it would be beneficial to my work, not as a way to bring my personal life into the work sphere but as a way to get more done all at once. I am in love with my job and workplace but there is significant room for improvement as far as gadget stuff goes. That process is in motion, slowly but slowly.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The title for the seventh and final Harry Potter book has been announced! There's a neat bit of fun on JK Rowling's site that unveiled the title. If you want to cheat, here's how:

1. Click on the eraser.
2. In the mirror, you'll see a hallway. Click on the farthest doorknob.
3. Click on the upper center of the main door (not in the mirror).
4. Click on the ceiling in the hallway in the mirror.
5. Click on the cobweb next to the door.
6. Click on the second chime to the right (in the window) and drag it to the main door.
7. Click on the wrapped gift behind the door, then click on the unwrapped contents.
8. Play hangman till you've figgered it out.

Now we just have to wait until it's actually published!

We have color! The beginnings of it, anyway, and the space is really coming together. I'm so geeked about how neat the colors look, and the space really has its own feel (which was my goal) already. This is just the first coats so some of the painted areas are still splotchy. I believe the painting will be completed today (Thursday). Coordinating the carpet and shelving has been slightly complicated by the upcoming holidays but I'm sure it'll all come together eventually. Our traffic has been extremely slow the past few weeks anyhow, so no worries.

Krater

Wowzers! It looks like Skee-town's own JD Ryznar, of Yacht Rock fame and one of the great minds behind the festival that is Cinco de Moustache, has written a movie which Jason Lee is rumored to be starring in. I didn't know JD very well, just peripherally through mutual friends. I'm still pretty geeked about this, though.

Buttons and Bangs

Buttons
Originally uploaded by annethelibrarian.
So, I got a haircut. I have bangs. And layers. And I'm not yet quite sure if I understand how it works, but I'm getting a handle on it.

While we were up in good ol' Mount P. last night, we stopped at the Shell Station so I could pick up some gum. When I went up to the register, both of the women working there just stared at my coat. Instead of greeting me or asking if the gum was going to be all I needed, one of them said, after a second, "Got buttons on yer coat?" I paused and said, "Yes. Yes I do." And then I waited for a moment and pushed the gum forward on the counter and said "Just the gum, then" and they finally rang me up, though they continued to stare, reading slowly but surely. They agreed that "some of those are kinda cute" in an approving way and after a few more long minutes, gave me my receipt so I could go. Sheesh.

The Eastern Block - Rubbles - 12-08-2006

Our show last night at Rubbles was SO much fun. The Eastern Block kicked as much ass as possible and our Sk88 set was pretty sweet, too. The Burning Bushes wrapped up the night in typical unruly fashion and a rockin' time was had by all. Thanks to all those who came to show your support! If you couldn't make it and want Sk88's brand-new, perfect-for-holiday-gift-giving CD, Ex Mortis, email me at anneheathen at gmail dot com.

Fidelity

I read about Regina Spektor's new song/video in EW's Snap Judgment. I'd actually already ripped the CD but hadn't listened to it yet. Spektor has obvious similarities with Fiona Apple (including sometimes cloying and annoying weird-for-the-sake-of-it affectations). After watching this video, I listened to the album on my iPod and it's pretty okay. There are some definite skip-it tracks (solo saxophone is second-cousins with solo harmonica in my book) but overall I quite enjoyed it. I take a bit of joy in finding a new female voice to listen to.

I also sent this video on to my pal Angela, who, being as cool as she is, is already all over it.
