new Vogue patterns

As usual, from the 30+ new patterns Vogue recently added, just a few appeal.

V8489.jpg
I like views D and F, particularly D as pictured in the drawing, with contrast neck band and midriff. I haven't worked with knits much, and I probably won't choose to start this one anytime soon. I will more than likely get the pattern, though, the next time JoAnn has a mega sale.

V1043
V1043 is yet another Vintage Vogue. I'm uncertain about the diagonal front. As pictured, the model is of course rail thin and without much shape, but I do think it could be cute with a more curvy person underneath.

V1051.jpg
I haven't made myself fitted trousers yet, but I do like the way these are tailored. I'd go for view B - the contrast welts are too bold for my taste, at least for that placement. I don't think the contrast is very flattering, and what's the point then?

The blue satin Members Only-style jacket is a requisite of the time, of course, and I'll throw in the unbelievably high-riding short shorts for free. Fashion before comfort, people! :)

spring dress

Calvin Klein Cotton DressI saw this dress in an ad in Vogue magazine and thought it seems the type of dress I ought to be able to find a close approximation for in pattern form. I'd want to make it in a different color, of course, probably a grey-ish purple, and I might want to make it with longer sleeves - not a lot longer, but a bit.

If you've seen a pattern similar to this, please let me know!

How to Behave on an Internet Forum

You should immediately watch this video, because it is hilarious.

I wonder if it's created by the same folks who did the stuff for the IT Crowd?

On Saturday I finished this hat, Natty by Wendy Bernard. It's a pattern I found on Ravelry and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. The original pattern doesn't specify the yarn I used (Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Bulky - in Redwood Forest Hand-Dyed) but it worked out quite well. I opted not to make the matching scarf, because I didn't think it would lay well in this yarn.

One thing that's pretty cool about this pattern is that the hat is completely reversible (scarf would be, too, if I made it). This required me to make the finishing super-neat, but it wasn't difficult. Only two ends to weave in and the variegated color of the yarn made it pretty easy to hide them.

I do have another skein (and a little left from the first), so I'll eventually want to find something to make from it. Suggestions are welcome. :)

Quellon Araucania Feather & Fan scarf

I finished working on this scarf last night. I got the yarn when I spent my xmas gift certificate at the Old Village Yarn Shop in Plymouth - it's Quellon by Araucania in colorway 8, and it's mega soft and so comfortable to wear. I used a basic feather and fan pattern, casting on 38 stitches on size 6 needles. I wore it today for the first time and I'm super pleased with it.

Siobhan Vivian-mania!

A Little Friendly Advice by Siobhan Vivian

Mega cool Siobhan Vivian, author of the now-available-in-stores-get-your-ass-to-Borders-now A Little Friendly Advice, now has her own website! You can still catch her (along with a bunch of other totally sweet writers of teen lit) over at the Longstockings, too.

The Slayground has a roundtable discussion and an interview with Ms. Vivian herself, so check those out, too.

You may remember me heaping praise on this book back in October. It's totally stuck with me over the months and I'm looking forward to re-reading it very soon.

Seriously, if you haven't read ALFA yet, make it a priority already.
