DIY Fabric Labels

Allyson Hill has a great tutorial on how to make your own labels using printable fabric. I had no idea you could make such professional looking labels using this type of process, but I'm pretty impressed by her results.

I wasn't familiar with Allyson's blog before but it looks like she's got a ton of great crafty stuff there.

feeling accomplished

no more ugly shrubs

Yesterday I cut down the picker bush (tree) that was in front of our house, and started in on the ugly juniper. K was thatching the lawn but took breaks to help me do the real gruntwork. We left the juniper about half-done and finished it this morning. After that I was feeling pretty good about the progress so I decided to start in on the bigger shrubs. I thought I'd just trim them down to stumps so we could pull them out sometime in the future, but our awesome neighbor came across the street and offered to help us tow them out with his truck. Woot! The front yard is now free of all ugly shrubs and is a lot closer to what I'd like and eventually we'll use some pavers to do some nice landscaping. Now we're massively sore from all the work we did, but it's definitely worthwhile.

Sunday

Purple Wintercreeper
Originally uploaded by annethelibrarian.
It was beautiful again today and we spent some time in the yard during the morning. We planted the two dogwoods I got a few weeks ago (designed to eventually block the ugly back fence - we'll probably add more of them at some point) as well as the purple wintercreeper short shrubs. We "built" a pseudo-planter (just stuck a piece of cedar in the ground in front of the plants) around them. This is probably a temporary home for the plants but at least they're in the ground now and ready to grow.

decoration

living room

So K got awesomely inspired this week and painted the living room walls. They are a parchment color with one "basketweave" (tan) accent wall, and it looks so good! No more baby blue faux finishedness, yay.

Today we hung knickyknacky shelves and some photos/art. I'm sooo friggin' happy with how it looks. We still need to paint the trim, and eventually the carpet will come out and the hardwoods will be refinished, but the floors will be a long way off (when we can't remember in such great detail the pain of moving all the furniture into the house in the first place).

I'm happy to say that the living room finally feels like ours. (And yay! Karl for getting us going on it!)

home library

Ever wanted a built-in library at home? Library Designs can help. We have a small library in our third bedroom, but it is composed of a variety of shelves we've collected over the years and is thus nowhere near as cohesive as one of these. (It is organized and alphabetized, thanks to K. Perhaps eventually we'll build something fancy.
