So, I got a message today alerting me that one of my flickr photos was featured at Quillblog as part of their Friday Photo series. Neat!

They've got a flickr pool called Quill and Quire, focused primarily on images related to the Canadian book scene.

My thanks to Quillblog for including my photo even though it isn't Canadian.

Seattle Aquarium

Crazy Huge Octopus
Originally uploaded by annethelibrarian.
Today K and I visited both the Sci-Fi Museum and the Seattle Aquarium.

The Sci-Fi Museum was mildly interesting, but definitely not worth the price of admission. It was just too quick and completely not interactive, and overall not enough cool stuff. I'm still glad we went, but it wasn't anything I'd recommend.

The Aquarium also seemed sort of small but it was definitely more fun. We happened to arrive just at feeding time for the fish so we caught a glimpse of a few divers throwing fish pieces around (there were about seven hundred children in the room, along with their parents and strollers). The giant octopus was my favorite thing. I didn't manage to catch a photo of it when it was all stretched out--it was impressive and ginormous.

ALA Midwinter 2007: Grand Hyatt Seattle

We are staying at one of the conference co-headquarter hotels, the Grand Hyatt Seattle. It is awesome! The staff welcomed us warmly and our room is seriously nice. K is currently enjoying the very nice bathtub and I'm relaxing on the giant, fluffy bed.

In other news, I got a new fun thing for my MacBook, a MacStyles featuring the skull shape. It looks way neat, though I did get accused of having an "evil laptop" during the airport security check today (they also did a special inspection of my purse, because apparently my PocketPC, digital camera, phone, and iPod added up to too many gadgets in such a small space. Perhaps this is evidence that I need an iPhone?).

ALA Midwinter 2007: Arriving in Seattle

We arrived in Seattle today, safe and sound and on time, no luggage hassles or any other troubles. The flight was of course full of librarians and was packed to the gills. I believe the gentleman sitting next to me was an employee of Innovative, but he was busy working on a presentation and under earbuds so I didn't try to make conversation. We took the Airporter Shuttle Bus to our hotel and I managed to take a few decent photos (and many mediocre ones) through the window. We did a little walking around to find dinner and noted that we are in a really nice area of downtown. We're right next door to the Convention Center and there is just about every sort of retail opportunity outside that you could possibly want. I'm really looking forward to being here in Seattle this week, as well as the actual conference.
