Fans of musical theatre and 80s pop rap may get a kick out of this reimagining of Sir Mix-a-lot's classic "Baby Got Back" in the tradition of Gilbert & Sullivan:

So, Ned Vizzini has a new book going, his first for grown-ups (rather than teens). He recently did a reading at KGB, and it's available for those who missed it:

While I'm at it with the Cecil Castellucci fangrrlness, I just found a new (?) series of videos made by Miss Cecil entitled I heart YA. It's basically a bunch of really cool teen lit authors hanging around in their native environs, being all talented and fun.

Awhile back I posted about Mika, a brand new catchy young thing with a stunning falsetto. Back then I noted that my favorite of his then-available tunes was "Grace Kelly" and now he has a video. That chorus is irresistable!
Yo Gabba Gabba! is a forthcoming TV series that will air on Nick Jr. this fall. It's all crazy-wow-bright-colors-danceable-beat-funny-names- vaguely-Japanese-made-for-kids-but-their-parents-might-be-able-to-stand-it. Where it'll rate on the quality vs. quantity continuum remains to be seen.
Here's a big fat congrats! to Mo Willems, for winning the Carnegie Medal for the animated Weston Woods production of Knuffle Bunny.

This Simplicity film advertises just how easy it is to make a dress using one of their patterns. It is so easy, in fact, that you only have to hand-baste the entire dress before truly sewing it together (among other mega time-consuming techniques). The amount of work Betty puts into this dress is enough to make me think sewing isn't worth it--thank goodness things can be quicker!
Some ambitious folks have made a short film adaptation of Douglas Coupland's most recent novel JPod. It's definitely short, and includes just a snippet of the whole book, but it's pretty good at giving the feel of the book in a mere four and a half minutes.
Looking for a slightly strange musical animated video that gets better each time you view it? Look no further than Whence that Wince by They Might Be Giants.
And behold, there's another, potentially even cooler video by Miss Hatherley: Behave. Check out this animation! So. Neat.
Today's cute popstress with a clever video is Charlotte Hatherley. She is reportedly the girlfriend of Edgar Wright, who directed this video. Wright's pal Simon Pegg (always a welcome face) appears in this video, which plays on A-ha's infamous Take On Me video as well as zines. I'll definitely be checking out more of Ms. Hatherley.
Okay, perhaps not actually technicolor, but animated in the grand fashion Weston Woods is known for. Scholastic has posted a clip. Seeing this takes me back to all the excitement of the Caldecott experience. Hopefully this will be the Weston Woods video they show at the Caldecott/Newbery banquet in June.

Word on the street is that these days, kids do stuff like this in the free time we used to use for building forts and whatnot. This is damn sweet!
One of my favorite writer blogs is that of John Green, author of teenlit masterpieces Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of Katherines. Green and his brother Hank have started an ambitious and promising video blog project for 2007: Brotherhood 2.0. It has been entertaining so far and it's only four days in. Hank sort of reminds me of a guy I dated who thought he was the new Chuck Palahniuk (he may have been right, but he got all pissed at me and moved away before I got to read his entire book, so I can't say), but with far fewer tattoos (I'm guessing, though I suppose there may have been many not visible to the camera). Anyway, check it totally out.
